Nestled in Beautiful Amish Country

At the Eden Resort, we love exploring our lovely Lancaster City, visiting the well-known spots for locals and out-of-towners and discovering hidden gems—all that are just minutes from our hotel. And, we love hearing that others are recognizing and appreciating the gem that is our city!

About an hour and a half from Baltimore and Philadelphia, and only three hours from New York City, Lancaster has been named one of the top 10 coolest places to visit in U.S. by Forbes!

In her Forbes article, “The 10 Coolest U.S. Cities to Visit in 2018,” Ann Abel quoted Tom Marchant, a partner in the luxury travel company Black Tomato, who said that Lancaster is a “newly hip Victorian city.”

As he shared his impressions of different cool American places, he said, “The center of Amish country is bucolic but boasts a bustling food scene and is quickly becoming a cultural hotbed.”

Marchant loves the architecture of Lancaster and recommends exploring “the alleys and cobblestone streets by foot, checking out the many repurposed old warehouses that house thriving businesses.” He mentioned The Thistle Finch Distillery for cocktails; The Fridge for well-curated beers;, and, for its culinary achievements, Luca, which is “quickly gaining national acclaim for its Italian dishes that pay homage to local farming communities.”

The arts play a central part in this thriving city; Lancaster is home to the oldest and “the stunning Fulton Theatre and neighboring Prince Street, Lancaster’s gallery row, which pulses with art on summer first Fridays.” Lancaster’s Fulton Theatre, also called The Fulton Opera House, is one of only eight theatres in the United States recognized as a National Historic Landmark.

In 2016, the New York Post called Lancaster’s culinary and cultural scene a “mini-Brooklyn.” That same year, Paste magazine compared the city to “Portlandia” because of its hipster culture.

Travel experts call Lancaster “still one of the U.S.’s best kept secrets” – and now is the time to come and discover its charm and beauty in person!
