Spring, marvelous time of renewals, is almost upon us. Celebrate this beautiful season with a fun and unforgettable getaway – visit Lancaster County PA and stay at the Eden Resort, a lovely hotel near Amish Country.

The area offers an interesting and quite unique blend of modern trends and old traditions, urban scenes and bucolic beauty, with lots of charm in it all. As you enjoy relaxation and rejuvenation during your stay at the most pampering among the hotels in Amish country, we have picked some popular and entertaining local events to complete your visit to Lancaster County, PA.

Let’s start with – the Mud Sales

A local phenomenon and a Lancaster County original, Mud Sales draw thousands of people to this area at this time of year. These huge events are truly a cultural experience, supporting local volunteer fire companies. Many sales and auctions are held in the muddy fields of spring, hence the name, and are a fun way to find a bargain – while shopping for a good cause.

Anything from Amish quilts (donated by the Amish women’s groups), PA Dutch crafts and antiques to lumber, farm equipment, even buggies and livestock will be up for sale, with six or seven auctions conducted simultaneously.

So get your boots ready, and join in this local tradition. Bid or browse (a great place to do lots of people watching), but make sure you come hungry! Lots of PA Dutch food and homegrown produce; corn soup is a staple, as are funnel cakes and sticky buns.

As you stroll around and enjoy the scenes, it’s good to know that the Amish do not like to be photographed, so if you’re taking photos, be discreet and take them from a distance, behind or the side.

Mud Sales are a great blend of community and tradition; fascinating and never dull, the sales bring together the city and the country.
